Brea - 2018 Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir

Varietal: Pinot Noir
Vineyard: Sumida Sisters + La Estancia Vineyard
Region: Santa Lucia Highlands, California
ABV: 12.5%
Colour: Garnet
Nose: Dried Cherry, Sandalwood, Cinnamon
Taste:
Raspberry, Vanilla, Cherry, Pepper.
Farming:
Biodynamic
Soil: The La Estancia Vineyard consists of sandy loam and silt, The Sumida Sisters Vineyard is Chualar loam, granite and sandstone.
Vinification:
Picked by the phases of the moon. 100% destemmed into 5-ton open top fermenters. Gently pumped over each morning and evening throughout fermentation. They used a french method of racking and returning known as Delastage to reduce tannin at the beginning and end of fermentation. Aged in neutral French oak 228L and 270L barrels for 10 months

Our Take: This is sipping by the fire wine. This is Hygge, the Danish term for a all things comfortable, wine. Its something to share with someone but not feel like you need to throw a party. This would be an excellent California Pinot to have on hand at all times.

Production Notes: Chris Brockway, a noted California natural winemaker and owner of Broc Cellars, and Tim Elenteny, the libations logistics leader of Elenteny Imports, are the masterminds behind BREA Wine Company. They have seen the thirst for site-specific, terroir driven, and sustainably farmed wine become the driving force for many avant-garde California winemakers who gravitate toward varieties that flow outside the mainstream.  BREA Wine Company seeks to capture this thirst while also bringing the beloved classic varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir into the fold.
